PreK Homeschool Curriculums
Preschool homeschooling is less about formal academics and more about building the habits and curiosity that make later learning easier — letter and number recognition, listening to stories, following simple routines, and lots of hands-on play. Most families at this stage keep lessons short, playful, and low-pressure; a “school day” might run 20–45 minutes rather than several hours. Literature-based and nature-focused programs tend to shine here, since read-alouds and outdoor exploration do most of the early teaching, while formal workbook-style instruction is optional at this age and best kept light if used at all. A few of the curriculums below (Sonlight, The Good and the Beautiful, Math-U-See’s early levels, Abeka’s K4/K5 track, My Father’s World) offer dedicated PreK content, though many families simply supplement with library books and everyday counting and letter games rather than buying a full program this early. If you’re unsure whether to start formal curriculum now or wait, know that there’s no real downside to waiting — kindergarten readiness is built just as well through reading together and open-ended play as it is through a boxed program.
